There are three types of drain systems commonly used on flat roofs. There are a number of drainage options for flat roofs to combat ponding. Gutters are the most commonly used and most cost effective drainage solution for flat roofs. So often we find that inner drains are high on the roof causing water to pool around them. There are three types of drain systems on a flat roof.

Each of these systems can become clogged by debris. They catch rainwater as it rolls off the edge of the roof and divert the water into a downspout that dispenses it a safe distance from the foundation of the building. Inner drains are located in central areas of the roof and are connected to pipes underneath the roof that drain the water to a sewer. It is possible to add new roof drains to relieve ponding on a sagged flat roof as shown at left.

Using this method permits adding a drain at the roof s low point. Regular cleaning and unblocking of the drains gutters and scuppers is mandatory. Use this downspout extension to divert water away from the foundation or connect to drainage pipe and catch basin to control drainage. Water moves from these drains often at the center of the roof and into an integral drainage system of pipes.

Each of these systems has its own pros and cons. It is very critical to position drains for maximum effect. Featuring durable vinyl construction this extension can be buried bent or connected to additional sections. Flat roofs collect an abundance of debris that can t be removed daily.

The main benefit of inner drains is that the system is hidden from view. During rainstorms this debris gets washed into the gutter trough and clogs it preventing proper drainage. Inner drains are resistant to freezing but can require careful maintenance to prevent problems.
